Cream Cheese is low in carbs but higher in healthy fats which is why it’s perfect for a Keto diet. The idea of a Keto diet is to limit the about of carbs and balance the amount of protein and healthy fats in your diet.

Also, enjoying an appropriate amount of healthy fat makes you feel full longer so it is a good idea to incorporate them into meals and snacks. This is why I prefer cream cheese frosting over buttercream frosting.

What supplies do you need?

Ok before we jump to recipe, let’s talk about what you’ll need to make sugar free cream cheese frosting at home.

  • Stand Mixer. You will need a mixer in order to make this frosting recipe. Anytime I make an icing for my favorite desserts, I like to use my kitchen stand mixer. It’s so nice to be able to set it up and then just forget about it while it’s blending the ingredients together for you.
  • Hand Mixer. You can also use a hand held mixer. This will work as well to whip the cream cheese in this recipe to make the cream cheese frosting.

Either of these will work great. I do recommend using an electric mixer as it’s easier and quick to create this recipe.

What is Powdered Erythritol?

  • Powdered Erythritol is a sugar substitute. It is also known as a type of sugar alcohols that is generally used to make low carb or Keto friendly recipes.
  • It is sugar free and low in carbohydrates.
  • Erythritol has the same consistency as powdered sugar.

Alternative sweetener options:

  • If the powdered sweetener version is not available, you normally can find a granulated sweetener option and use a coffee grinder to grind it into a powder form.

This is the best way to make keto cream cheese frostingwithout powdered sugar. It is important that you grind this so the sweetener will not make the frosting grainy.

  • Another sugar substitute is liquid stevia. I haven’t tried it in this recipe before but I think it would work if the other 2 options were not available. It bakes and cooks similarly to regular sugar so this is why it’s a preferred substitution for anyone following a low carb or Keto diet.

Where to find these products?

These products have become more popular over the years. I found it recently at my local grocery store and they’ll have them at health food stores as well.

You can also find them on amazon here as well. Swerve is the brand that I used for this recipe.

Can you make homemade Vanilla Extract?

Vanilla extract is needed for this recipe and I just recently started to make my own. It’s so easy to make and really does add more flavor to baking recipes.

It only takes 2 ingredients to create homemade vanilla extract. I was able to make it in under 5 minutes. Also, I save a lot of money by making my own vanilla extract instead of using the store bought kind.

How to pipe frosting?

  • Place inside a piping bag.
  • If using for cupcakes or a cake, start in the middle and make a spiral. Continue making the spiral going toward the outside of the baked good. Finish by coming back to the center.

Tips:

  • The butter and cream cheese should be room temperature. This will make the ingredients easier to combine.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, use a ziplock bag. Just place the frosting inside and seal. Cut the corner off and pipe the icing.
  • When you freeze this frosting, it is a good idea to use a mixer to beat this after it comes to room temperature. This will help return the frosting to a soft and fluffy texture before you use it.
